We wanted the feeling of travelling again. Not being moved around a country behind glass, and not disappearing into a resort where you could be almost anywhere.
Proper adventure, with the tedious bits quietly handled.
So this journey alternates intensity and recovery. Hanoi wakes you up. Ha Giang is the adventure spike. Lan Ha slows everything down. Ninh Binh gives you bikes, boats and limestone. Da Nang resets the pace. Hoi An lets the journey land.

Hanoi
The landing shock
Land, walk, eat, acclimatise. Hanoi is not a city we want to soften around the edges. The traffic, tiny restaurants, coffee, heat and noise are part of arriving.
DAYS 3–5
Ha Giang
The adventure spike
This is the big one: three days of extraordinary mountain roads, huge valleys, villages and landscapes that make you stop talking for a while.
DAYS 6–7
Lan Ha Bay
Turn the volume down
After Ha Giang, the bay changes the rhythm completely. Limestone islands, water, a boat and very little that needs achieving.
DAYS 8–9
Ninh Binh + Tam Coc
Boats, bikes, breathing room
The same limestone drama, now at ground level. Take the boat. Get on a bike. Ride out towards Bich Dong and allow a spare half-day to become part of the experience.
DAYS 10–11
Da Nang
The reset
Beach, excellent food and an easier urban rhythm. After the north, Da Nang gives the journey room to breathe.
DAYS 12–14
Hoi An
Finish with atmosphere
Old streets, lanterns, food, boats and a little theatre after dark. Hoi An is popular because it is beautiful — and we’re completely fine with that.

Why Detour + Discover
We built the trip we'd recommend to friends.
This wasn't assembled from a desk. It grew out of our own journey through Vietnam — what we loved, what we'd change and the moments we still talk about.
We want the mountain road, the tiny restaurant, the local table and the unexpected detour. We also want someone sensible to have worked out the awkward transfer.

Before you ask.
Are international flights included?
No. The working product excludes international flights, giving you freedom over how you get to Vietnam and whether you extend the journey.
How active is the trip?
This is an active adventure rather than a fly-and-flop holiday. Ha Giang, bikes, boats and days on the move are part of the appeal. A clear activity guide will be published before bookings open.
Do I need to be part of a couple?
No. Detour + Discover isn't couples-only. The point is travelling with people who want the same kind of experience.
What hotels will we stay in?
Featured stays are being finalised. The principle is character, comfort, good locations and no anonymous luxury bubble.
How much will it cost?
The working pilot price is £2,995 per person, excluding international flights. It is not yet a published booking price; final dates, price, inclusions and financial protection will be confirmed before deposits are taken.
How much free time is there?
Deliberately enough. We sort the things that can wreck a day and leave room for the things that can make one.
